MILF returns SAF’s firearms

CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – The leadership of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) formally turned-over the firearms of the members of the Special Action Force (SAF) who perished during the January 25 Mamasapano clash to the GPH CCCH Peace Panel.

Around 16 firearms: one unit – M60 LMG; 12 units – M4; two units M4 with M203; one unit –Minimi; ½ barrel assembly of M4; four units magazine without ammo; one unit holographic scope; one flashlight; one long magazine with 16 ammos (5.56mm); one rifle sling; one front grip and one unit cellular phone of the fallen SAF were brought at 6ID Headquarters with Major General Pangilinan as the host. The MILF, as promised, returned the items to prove their sincerity and in an effort to save the ongoing peace talks with the government.

Present to witness the event were Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Secretary Teresita Quintos-Deles, AFP Chief of Staff General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr, GPH Peace Panel Chair Miriam Coronel-Ferrer, MILF Peace Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Governor Mujiv S. Hataman, GPH-CCCH Head Brig General Carlito G. Galvez Jr, MILF-CCCH Head Mr. Rashid T. Ladiasan, IMT Head of Mission Maj General Dato Abdul Samad Bin HJ Yaakub, WESMINCOM Commander LTGen Rustico O. Guerrero, Police Regional Office-ARMM Officer-in-Charge PSSupt Noel P. Armilla, and the local and national media.

Secretary Deles thanked the MILF for the gesture of goodwill following the incident at Mamasapano. “We accept this clear signal of the willingness and determination of the MILF to sustain the gains of the peace process,” she said.

Chairman Iqbal assured everyone that the MILF is a full partner in the search of peace in Mindanao and its leadership is in full control of the situation and willing to do everything as far as the peace process is concerned.
