Army extends assistance to soldier killed in action in Agusan del Norte

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – The Philippine Army will extend assistance to a member of the Army's 23rd Infantry Battalion, who was declared dead on arrival in Butuan Doctors Hospital on June 9 after an encounter with the NPA. The family of Private Plavin Jhon Ybañez will receive special financial assistance and funeral services support from the government. Pvt. Ybañez, 26 years old, was hit at the right portion of his stomach after a fifteen-minute firefight with NPA rebels belonging to the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee in Brgy. Rizal, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte at about 6 a.m. on June 9. Ybañez was immediately brought to the Butuan Doctors Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:30 a.m. The Philippine Army will provide a special financial assistance which will be computed based on the basic salary of the deceased; a funeral service support amounting to P80,000.00; Alay sa Kawal amounting to P30,000.00; and house and lot remuneration. The family will also receive P250,000.00 special financial assistance from the Presidential Management Staff, Office of the President. They shall also be entitled to P50,000.00 if a member of the Armed Forces and Police Mutual Benefit Association (AFPMBAI), and another financial assistance amounting to P50,000 – P100,000 if a member of the Philippine Army Finance Center Producers Integrated Cooperative (PAFCPIC). Ybañez is from Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. Meanwhile, PFC Jerwin Mancognahan, who was also wounded in the said encounter, is currently recuperating at Camp Evangelista Station Hospital in Cagayan de Oro City. #
