Army troops get medals for gallantry in action

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – Pres. Rodrigo R. Duterte personally gave medals to 11 Army soldiers who were involved in the series of encounters against New People’s Army (NPA) during his visit at the Army’s 4th Infantry Division (ID) in Camp Evangelista, Barangay Patag, Cagayan de Oro City on Tuesday. 

Nine soldiers namely: 1Lts. Lorefel O Judaya, Marvin S Jacinto, Jehiel P Liw-agan, and Aljosh Iman A Arreola; Sgt. Harold D Nimenzo; Cpls. Raelcum T Mendador and Brendo C Espiritu; and Pfcs Jaynard E Llander and Ricky Jay P Borja received gold cross medals from the president for their gallantry in action during an encounter with 80 NPA members in Sitio Kambangon, Barangay Lilingayon, Valencia City, Bukidnon on August 5.


Pres. Duterte also pinned the wounded personnel medals to PFC Richelle V Sandigas and PFC Ricky Jay P Borja, who were wounded in action during the series of encounters in the same area.

The encounter resulted to the recovery of nine high-powered firearms composed of two AK47, two M653, and five M16 A1 rifles; one Improvised Explosive Device; eight AK47, three M14, and one M16 Magazines; one Rifle grenade; five gallons of gas; three Handheld radios, NPA personal belongings and subversive documents.

One soldier was also killed during the encounter identified as Pvt. First Class Ricardo T Simbajon.

Meanwhile, 4th ID Commander, Major General Benjamin Madrigal, presented to the President some 25 firearms, magazines, ammunitions and other war materials confiscated by the military from the New People’s Army (NPA) in various encounters in the Caraga and Northern Mindanao regions. #
