Army sends-off 1BCT to Sulu

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army sends-off its 1st Brigade Combat Team (1BCT) to Jolo, Sulu on Friday, May 31, 2019, at Pier 13, South Harbor, Manila. 

 

The Philippine Navy's strategic sealift vessel BRP Tarlac will transport the 1BCT from Manila to Sulu, where they will be deployed under the Western Mindanao Command's area of responsibility. The 1BCT’s deployment intends to help address the threat of local terrorist groups in the island as well as to fulfill the force requirements of the newly activated 11th Infantry "Alakdan" Division.

MANILA -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) denounced the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) for detonating an anti-personnel mine near a convoy of vehicles carrying troops, local volunteers and foreign observers who were passing by Sitio Nasandigan, Barangay Kalabugao, Impasug-ong town, Bukidnon Thursday.

MARAWI CITY, May 24, 2019 – “We are on our way to being well. We are finally learning what peace is all about,” Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra declared as residents here commemorated the siege that occurred two years ago.

Although the full extent of the rehabilitation process has yet to be completed, Gandamra urged the people in Marawi to put more emphasis on social healing.

29 NPA rebels surrender

MANILA, Philippines — Relentless combat operations in Mindoro supposedly resulted in the surrender of 29 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels, 18 of whom are from an indigenous tribe.

The former rebels surrendered over the weekend to the Army’s 4th Infantry Battalion (IB), 203rd Brigade and San Jose Police in Occidental Mindoro.

According to the 203rd Brigade commander, Col. Marceliano Teofilo, the latest batch of surrenderers belonged to Sangay ng Partido Lokalidad and Milisyang Bayan and were tasked by the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)-NPA to act as spies, tax collectors and recruiters.

Over 100,000 IDPs in Marawi City still homeless

COTABATO CITY – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Wednesday that there are 100,000 people who still do not have a home to return to due to the 2017 conflict in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

“Despite the numerous aid efforts that have truly helped those in need over the two years, the people of Marawi have grown tired and frustrated. They want to stand on their own feet again and stop depending on assistance,” said Martin Thalmann, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in the Philippines.

Bayan, Kontra-Daya slam red-tagging of party-lists under Makabayan coalition

MANILA, Philippines — Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) and election watchdog Kontra-Daya denounced on Friday the alleged “state-sponsored” red-tagging of party-lists belonging to the Makabayan coalition.

The groups, which also slammed law enforcers for “electioneering,” claimed that it had affected their campaign for the May 13 polls.

Makabayan’s dismal poll results, 'vindication': NTF-ELCAC exec

MANILA – A ranking official of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) on Wednesday said the dismal election results of party-list groups belonging to Makabayan bloc is a vindication and a wake-up call such that people no longer believe their advocacies. 

"The result of the recent election has shown that the people are finally awake. The 'Kamatayan (Makabayan)' bloc's dismal performance during the election is a vindication for truth,” said Major Gen. Antonio Parlade, Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Deputy Chief-of-Staff for Civil-Military Operations.

As I have predicted, Duterte is successful in rigging the May 13 elections to deliver to his candidates a false victory in the crucial senatorial race. As I have pointed out, he has to rig the elections because he has the power and the criminal personality and motivation to do so because clean and honest elections would have allowed the opposition senatorial candidates to win and frustrate his greed for power and plunder.
