In Dialectics it is the art or practice of arriving at the truth by the exchange of logical arguments.

Rationalism is often contrasted with empiricism, although it is possible to be both a rationalist and an empiricist.
Socrates firmly believed that before humans can understand the world, they first need to understand themselves; the only way to accomplish that is with rational thought.
