AFP vows to exhaust ‘lethal and non-lethal’ means vs. Reds

MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Friday vowed to exhaust all means to end communist insurgency, following President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to finish the decades-long insurgency problem.

“We will exhaust all means available — lethal and non-lethal to hit the enemy and hit them hard,” AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said in a statement.

“We will employ the different lines of efforts with other agencies of government address or help alleviate the identified social issues that the New People’s Army capitalizes,” he added.

PNP backs PRRD call to end communist insurgency now

MANILA -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday expressed support for President Rodrigo Duterte's stance to end communist insurgency now.

“Suportado natin yung hangarin ng Pangulo natin na matapos itong problema natin (We support our President's desire to end this problem) on insurgency. We will engage them in all their fronts doon sa agriculture, labor even the health, even in the academe which we started already and also even in the religious sector,” PNP chief, Gen. Oscar Albayalde told reporters.

“That's the very reason why we have the national task force, this is a whole nation approach, not only a whole government approach but it's a whole nation approach,” he added.

During the 31st anniversary celebration of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) at the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) main office in Quezon City on Tuesday night, Duterte warned of “a little trouble” in the coming months and urged the military to end communist insurgency, stressing that the government could not afford to pass it on to the next generation of Filipinos.

We congratulate the brave and militant Filipino youth and students for unwaveringly defending their democratic rights and opposing the schemes of the tyrannical US-Duterte regime to suppress opposition by implementing anti-student and anti-youth policies such as the revival of mandatory ROTC and the lowering of the minimum age of criminal liability.

Every decommissioned MILF combatant will receive P1-million package- Minister Sinarimbo

Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao– A package worth P100,000 in cold cash, housing and social services worth P950,000 awaits every Moro combatant set to be decommissioned, according to lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo, spokesperson of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The first tranche of decommissioning is slated September 7 that will be attended by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.

In its online report posted on August 27, 2019, Mindanews, a leading media organization in Mindanao quoted Sinarimbo saying that the non-cash package includes “social protection that includes health benefits, scholarships and other social services, including the housing for the family of combatants.”

Army installs new Civil-Military Operations Regiment Commander

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army installed the new commander of the Civil-Military Operations Regiment (CMOR) on August 15 here.

In a Change of Command Ceremony, Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto led the turnover of the unit symbol from outgoing commander Col. Facundo O. Palafox to the incoming Col. Arvin R. Lagamon.

Lagamon is a graduate of Philippine Military Academy “Tanglaw-Diwa” Class of 1992. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Management Major in Development Security from the Development Academy of the Philippines and a Master’s Degree in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines. Some of his military schooling include the Command and General Staff Course from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Command and General Staff College and a Public Affairs Officer Qualification Course from the Defense Information School in Maryland, USA.

Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao—The public launch of the decommissioning of 1,026 MILF forces will be on September 7 with no less that Pres. Rodrigo Duterte attending the significant event, Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez, Jr said in a Palace briefing.

The Philippine News Agency (PNA) did not mentioned in its report August 20 the venue of the decommissioning but most probably at Camp Darapanan, or at the Maguindanao Old Capitol, in Sultan Kudarat town.

CPP slams bid to revive Anti-Subversion Law

MANILA, Philippines – The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) denounced the proposal to revive the Anti-Subversion Law that could make communism illegal, the party said in a statement on Wednesday, August 14.

"Given the propensity of Duterte and his military officers to accuse people of being communists or associated with the CPP, the revival of the Anti-Subversion Law...will only result in military and police abuses and violations of democratic rights far worse than what we have already experienced in the past 3 years," the statement went on.

Reds gnawing at PH democracy: PNP exec

MANILA -- Communist rebels are nothing but a bunch of “termites” out to destroy democracy in the country, a Philippine National Police (PNP) official said on Friday.

"There is a clear and present danger posed by the CPP-NPA (Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army) and the front organizations that support it. They are termites, (viruses), who continue to use the law to circumvent or violate the laws. Using democracy to destroy democracy," Maj. Gen. Benigno Durana Jr., PNP Director for Police Community Relations, said in a statement.

Durana also reiterated the need for lawmakers to reinstate the anti-subversion law and enhance other existing laws to protect the youth from the communist movement.

Eduardo Año, will only result in military and police abuses and violations of democratic rights far worse than what we have already experienced in the past three years.
