Edsa Revolution proves Pinoys ready to defend freedom, democracy

MANILA — The 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution symbolizes the willingness of the Filipinos to stand together to fight for freedom and democracy, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said Tuesday.

"This historic event we are remembering today symbolizes the Filipino people’s resolve to stand up and come together in the name of freedom and democracy. Three decades hence, may the victories of the People Power Revolution continue to inspire us to unite for peace and inclusive progress now and in the future," Lorenzana said in his message for the occasion posted on the Department of National Defense's Facebook page.


He also urged every member of the defense and military establishment to remain committed in excellence and its sworn duty of protecting the country and the people.

Gideons International donates Bibles to Army troops

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – In a turnover ceremony, the Philippine Army received Bibles from the Gideons International Association here on Monday, February 24.

A total of 7,571 Bibles were officially handed over by Gideons International representative Brig. Gen. Jose Johnriel Cenabre (Ret) to Army Chief of Staff Brig. Gen. Rowen S. Tolentino, to be distributed inside Army Headquarters units and offices.

“On behalf of the Commanding General, Philippine Army, I would like to thank Gideons International Association for your support to our soldiers. The Bible is always a reliable source of strength and wisdom, and the Philippine Army is glad to receive such blessings” said Tolentino. “With rigor and risk of the call of duty, the Word of God provides our soldiers a higher level of courage, faith, and duty that transpires through their performance and determination,” he added.

Japan provides $2.12-M aid for solar power generation systems in Bangsamoro

Cotabato City– The Japanese government is providing at least USD2.12 million for the provision of solar power generation systems in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), said a report by Philippine News Agency (PNA) Tuesday, February 24.

The "Project for the Capacity Building of Bangsamoro Transition Authority for Strengthening Health Care Services in Remote Islands", an initiative focused on Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, will be implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and is seen to help health facilities in the provinces reduce daytime electricity costs as well as running costs incurred in the use of diesel-fueled generators, the PNA report said.

Ex-CPP chair Rodolfo Salas arrested in Pampanga

MANILA, Philippines — Police have arrested former Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) leader Rodolfo Salas, also known as “Kumander Bilog” in Angeles City, Pampanga province on Tuesday early morning for murder.

Salas, 72, was served an arrest warrant for 29 counts of murder in connection with the Inopacan massacre in Leyte which were allegedly committed by the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the CPP in the 1980s.

SULTAN KUDARAT, Maguindanao – Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Implementing Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal and his comrades have witnessed the atrocities of war. But now, after more than four decades, they are finally reaping the dividends of peace and development in their homeland.

"If you ask us about our condition now, it's better than being a combatant. We now have peace, justice, and socioeconomic interventions from the government and the international community so Inshallah, we hope that the quality of our lives will improve most especially the MILF combatants," Iqbal said during a press briefing here on Tuesday (Feb. 18), as the second phase of the decommissioning process of MILF combatants officially resumed.

Hindi kailanman aaminin ng 81st Infantry Battalion (IB) na mala-berdugo nitong sinentensyahan ng kamatayan sina Enniabel Balunos, Julius Marquez at Maria Filena Mejia noong ika-13 ng Pebrero sa Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur. Dahil maliban sa paglabag ito sa mga batas ng armadong tunggalian, tunay na kahiya-hiyang hindi nito sa labanan nagapi ang mga Pulang mandirigmang nakilala ng masa at mga kasama bilang Ka Lea/Onor, Ka Goyo at Ka Ricky. Sa halip, nadatnan nito silang walang kalaban-laban tsaka pinahirapan bago tadtarin ng bala hanggang tuluyang mamatay.

BARMM distributes medical equipment in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY (February 15, 2020) – Health care providers in Maguindanao are now equipped with modern facilities to respond to the health needs of their constituents.

This, as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) turned over some PHP16.2 million worth of medical equipment to various rural and barangay health stations in the province of Maguindanao on Friday.

Indigenous Peoples delegation visits Army

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – In a courtesy call, the Philippine Army Commanding General welcomed the visit of the Mindanao Indigenous Peoples Organization (MIPO) delegates here today, Feb. 10, 2020.

The visit aims to strengthen the cooperation between the IPs and the Army in enhancing counter insurgency efforts in support to the Executive Order 70 or the Whole-of-Nation Approach through the creation of a National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
