AFP Statement On Martial Law Extension

A vast representation of our people has made a resounding statement.

The 17th Congress, voting jointly--261 as against 18--favored the extension of the Martial Law and the suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus until 31 December 2017.

The AFP take this both as an acclamation and as a challenge.

Balo-i children draws peace on paper

BALO-I, Lanao Del Norte – Children staying at the evacuation centers of Balo-i town in Lanao Del Norte expressed their minds about peace thru poster making contests, Sunday, July 23.

The peace poster making contests was initiated by the soldiers of the CMO Joint Task Group Tabang (JTG Tabang) to make the children aware of the significance of “peace” in their future.

AFP intel operatives, 2 others killed in NPA offensives in Davao Oriental, Bukidnon

New People’s Army | Regional Operations Command
Southern Mindanao Region

With the recent extension of martial law in the entire island, the NPA in Southern Mindanao continues to defend the masses and exercises political authority of the People’s Democratic Government in different areas in the region. Two separate actions by NPA units over the weekend resulted in casualties of two AFP intelligence operatives in Caraga, Davao Oriental and 2 other enemy troops in Kitaotao, Bukidnon. 

Sgt. Cerilo M. Galigaw and another intel operative were killed after they resisted arrest and tried to shoot at Red fighters under the Comval-Davao East Coast Sub-Regional Operations Command in Sitio Logdeck, Brgy. Caningag in Caraga town, July 21, at around 12pm. Seized from them were 2 caliber .45 pistols, cellphones, Galigaw’s identification cards and his mission order document.

The President set foot in Marawi as the troops launched a daring assault from the other end of Mapandi Bridge-- site of one of the fiercest gun battle in downtown Marawi heavily defended by Maute-ISIS Group.

PSG Convoy Repulses NPA Roadblock

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – On July 19, 2017, a convoy from the Presidential Security Group (PSG) repulse the New People’s Army roadblock in the tri-boundary of Arakan, North Cotabato, Bukidnon and Davao City, after they were engaged in an armed encounter 6 o’clock in the morning. 

The encounter came after the convoy composed of 10 personnel on board 2 vehicles while enroute to Cagayan de Oro City saw the unaware NPAs clad in military uniform along the highway starting to coerce the plying motorist and establishing road block thereat.

Duterte’s dialogue with Bayan shows: change would only come from the people

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines’ Reciprocal Working Committee on Social and Economic Reforms (NDFP RWC-SER) is gravely concerned with the statements made by GPH Pres. Rodrigo Duterte in his dialogue with leaders of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) last July 18.

Duterte’s decline of Bayan’s reasonable plea for the end of martial law and, on the contrary, his push for the further extension of martial law in Mindanao and relatedly the GPH’s insistence for a “prolonged ceasefire” as a precondition for the continuation of the GPH-NDFP peace talks – all these do not at all bide well for the peace negotiations.

All these indicate that the GPH is just looking at the military angle of the crisis in Marawi and of the problems of the whole country, and that the GPH lacks interest to work out with the NDFP fundamental agreements towards solving the socio-economic and also the political-cultural root causes of the armed conflict with the objective of achieving real and lasting peace in the country.

CAMP RANAO, Marawi City-- Defense and security officials visited Marawi for the fourth time on 07 July 2017 --Day 46 since the rebellion erupted in that city in 23 May 2017.

Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and other officials of the Department of National Defense accompanying him and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Eduardo Año with AFP Major Service Commanders, Joint Staff, and Personal Staff joining him received an extensive briefing from the Commander of Joint Task Force Marawi and concurrent Commander of Army 1^st Infantry Division Brigadier General Rolando Bautista who leads the operations in Marawi.

CMO Joint Task Group “Tabang” starts working

PROVINCIAL CAPITOL, Marawi City – Few days after arriving in the city, the CMO Joint Task Group “Tabang” (JTG “Tabang”) started meeting with various key personalities to assess the extent of affectation that needs to be addressed.

Colonel Thomas Sedano Jr, commander of the JTG “Tabang” called for a meeting on Wednesday, July 12 at the provincial capitol to discuss the conduct of visitation and inspection to the evacuation centers in 2nd District of Lanao del Sur.

This was the declaration of Alan Jazmines, vice-chairperson of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines’ Reciprocal Working Committee on Socio-Economic Reforms, amid the announcement of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines that back channel talks will soon be held to discuss the creation of an “enabling environment” for the resumption of the fifth round of the peace talks.

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/14 July) – The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) will join Philippine investment promotion officials in a series of business missions this year to convey to prospective investors the “current context in the investment opportunities in Mindanao” amid the ongoing Marawi crisis.

First on the list is the seven-day investment roadshow in South Korea by the Philippines Investment Promotion Plan of the Board of Investments from July 17 to 23, said Romeo Montenegro, director for Investment Promotion, International Relations and Public Affairs of MinDA.
