FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila- The Philippine Army Vice Commander Major General Robert M. Arevalo together with Department of National Defense Assistant Secretary for Human Resource Antonio L. Bautista, who was the Guest of Honor and Speaker, were present during the celebration of Army Signal Regiment, 7th Founding Anniversary here today May 24, 2018.

PAF new jet fighters lauded for role in Marawi victory

MANILA --- Without support from the Philippine Air Force (PAF), especially its brand-new Mach 1.5 capable FA-50PH jet fighters, government losses in the five-month battle to liberate Marawi City from control of the Maute-ISIS Group terrorists would have been much higher, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief-of staff Gen. Carlito Galvez said Friday.

"The roar of the FA-50(PH) is the roar to victory. The PAF is the 'game changer' during the Marawi campaign. I'm impressed with the air warriors for flying day and night just to provide all the needed support of our troops on the ground during the entire campaign. Without our very skilled, focused and hard working pilots, air crew and air controllers, our casualties could have been more,” Galvez said during the Marawi Air Campaign Commemoration at the Edwin Andrews Airbase,  Zamboanga City.

Rodrigo Duterte declared martial law in Mindanao to mount his war of destruction in Marawi, intensify and extend Oplan Kapayapaan and impose his tyrannical and terrorist rule across the country.

In the name of “fighting terrorism,” Duterte bombed Marawi with utter disregard for the lives, property and livelihood of the Meranaws and the city’s other inhabitants. Hundreds of thousands evacuated, more than 1,200 have been killed and not less than 800 are still missing. This is Duterte’s biggest crime against the people under martial law. But this is not his only crime.

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The newly installed Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) General Carlito Galvez Jr led 38 other star-rank officers in the customary oath taking ceremony before President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang Palace Tuesday, 08 May 2018.

Prior the oath-taking, then Lieutenant General Galvez was promoted to the highest rank of General exclusive to the AFP Chief of Staff. The rank was donned by President Duterte, assisted by the Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana and General Galvez’ family.

Regarding reports on backchannel talks

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) urges the media and the public to await official statements on the outcome of informal talks between representatives of the NDFP and the GRP. Officials of the Duterte government should be more circumspect in issuing public statements or comments so as not to preempt the outcome of the informal talks and efforts to revive formal negotiations. It was earlier agreed by both sides that unilateral statements will not be issued prior to actual agreements.

The GRP has publicly declared that it wants the NDFP to commit to a ceasefire agreement as condition for resumption of talks. On the other hand, the NDFP has underscored the clamor for justice (especially the much-delayed release of around 500 political prisoners through a declaration of general amnesty) and for socio-economic reforms (land reform and national industrialization) as the most urgent measures to address the Filipino people’s aspirations for a just and lasting peace.

 We look forward to positive resolutions.

Three Moro organizations finalize their respective plans to help develop Shari’ah- compliant microfinance in Mindanao in their common will to help alleviate the target poor Bangsamoro communities from poverty. 

 The three groups namely Katiyakap, Inc., Kadtabanga Foundation and Federation of United Bangsamoro Women Multi-Purpose Cooperative, drafted their action plans during the culmination of their study tour in Indonesia from April 22 to May 1.
