Initial Investigation

A thorough investigation is already on-going to establish the identities and motives of the perpetrators of the killing of farm workers in Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, October 21.

Various government agencies including the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) are jointly working in the investigation.

The Apolinario Gatmaitan Command of the New People’s Army (AGC-NPA Negros Island) condemns in the strongest terms the massacre of nine farm workers manning a peasant camp-out in Hacienda Nene, Purok Firetree, Brgy. Bulanon, Sagay City, on the evening of October 20, 2018.

The Sagay massacre is the single biggest and most brutal incident of peasant killings under the Duterte regime thus far. The victims, sugarcane workers including women and minors, were mercilessly strafed using M16 rifles, with some of the bodies reportedly mutilated and burned afterwards.

CPP founder Joma Sison desperate for attention, General Galvez says

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City —The Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez Jr belied claims by communist Jose Maria Sison that the military is to blame for the terminated peace talks with the Communist Party of the Philippines.

In an exclusive report in the Manila Times, Sison said that the security sector led by Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana and then AFP Chief of Staff General Eduardo Año were the reason for dictating the outcome of informal talks last June.

“Jose Maria Sison is once again frothing lies in his mouth as he desperately attempts to circumvent the facts on the ground and regain relevance in their so-called armed struggle,” General Galvez said.

The NDFP-Mindanao is one with the struggle of the Filipino peasantry, especially the poor and middle farmers, in Mindanao, who, along with hapless Filipino workers and other toiling classes in the country, bear the brunt of the current rice crisis, high inflation, military onslaught, and the semi-feudal exploitation and oppression maintained and exacerbated presently by the US-Duterte regime.

Poor and middle peasants and farm-workers are the most exploited, oppressed and neglected classes in the country. Comprising more than 70% of Philippine society, their constant, albeit unrecompensed toil, feed the entire nation, yet they suffer the most from the economic crisis and, worse, are at the first victims of state terrorism and fascism in the countryside.

NPA owns up to attack on ex-mayor accused of using private army vs rebels

TACLOBAN CITY — Communist rebels owned up to the attack on a former Samar town mayor who allegedly committed crimes against the people, mainly corruption, during his tenure in office.

In a press statement, New People’s Army’s (NPA) Arnulfo Ortiz Command, which largely operates in Samar province, said the attack on Ananias Rebato, former mayor of San Jose de Buan town, was the rebels’ attempt to mete out the death penalty on him.

MANILA -- The military on Thursday lauded the designation of Major Gen. Macairog Sabeniano Alberto as the next Philippine Army (PA) chief replacing Lt. Gen. Rolando Joselito Bautista, who is scheduled to retire on Monday after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.

"Major Gen. Alberto is a highly respected leader and commander having distinguished himself in the field of combat, intelligence, and civil military operations in various echelons of the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) hierarchy," AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said.

Zamboanga City – A group of women launched the Women Against Violent Extremism (WAVE) on September 30, 2018 at Royce Convention Center, Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City. 

The group aims to reflect and implement the results of the Global Study on the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution No.1325 on Women, Peace and Security (WPS), and to highlight through its activities the importance of integrating prevention of violent extremism (PVE) into the WPS Agenda.
