At least 6 soldiers killed, 6 wounded in clash with NPA in Samar

MANILA, Philippines (4th UPDATE) – At least 6 soldiers were killed and 6 others wounded in a clash with communist rebels in Calbiga town in Samar on Tuesday, April 23.

According to a report from the military, troops from the 46th Infantry Battalion were in "hot pursuit" of members of the New People's Army (NPA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, in the hinterlands of the town.

New People’s Army Regional Operations Command Southern Mindanao Region

New People’s Army units in the provinces of North Cotabato and Compostela Valley actively countered combat operations of Armed Forces of the Philippines troops this week, inflicting casualties in three separate tactical offensives. Shortly after, the fascist enemy deployed heavy bombardment that forced communities to evacuate and spun fake news in an attempt to smokescreen its defeat.

Red fighters under the Mt. Apo Sub-Regional Command launched snipe operation against a platoon of operating 19th IB troops in Sitio Upper Tiwayan, Brgy. Badiangon in Arakan, North Cotabato, at around 9am on April 23. Later, at around 10am, another unit of Red fighters gave battle to fully-armed reinforcement troops at a crossing road in Sitio Anoling. After these two offensives, Red fighters safely withdrew from their positions, while 2 enemy officials were killed in action.

PNP probes Reds' IED attack in N. Samar

MANILA --The Philippine National Police (PNP) will investigate the improvised explosive device (IED) attack by communist rebels that killed a 10-year-old boy in Northern Samar.

“A full-dress investigation is underway to identify and build a strong case that we will present in court against CPP-NPA (Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) personalities responsible in the IED attack,” PNP spokesperson, Col. Bernard Banac said in a statement sent to reporters.

MANILA – Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday supported the government’s efforts to pursue localized peace talks with communist rebels to end the five decade-long insurgency problem in the country.

Lacson made the statement following President Rodrigo Duterte’s plan to create a new peace panel tasked to “oversee” localized peace talks.

MANILA-- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Thursday stood by its claim against Makabayan party-list groups who recently filed a complaint before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) over a Facebook post accusing them as legal fronts of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA).

"Bakit nagagalit ang Kamatayan (Makabayan) Bloc sa sinabi ng Civil Relations Service (CRS) na sila ay may parehong adhikain ng CPP-NPA? Ito naman ang sinabi ni CPP Chairman Jose Maria Sison sa kanyang video (Why is Kamatayan Bloc angry over what CRS said that it has the same goal with the CPP-NPA? This was mentioned by CPP Chairman Jose Maria Sision in his video)," Major Gen. Antonio Parlade, Jr., AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations, said in a statement, referring to the left-leaning legislators at the House of Representatives.

The Efren Martires Command of the New People’s Army (NPA-EMC) in Eastern Visayas today congratulated the Red fighters for defending the people versus the fascist AFP troops after successfully launching two tactical offensives versus fascist Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) troops in Samar last April 15, “This is the correct response of the revolutionary movement to the warmonger Government of the Republic of the Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte who recently voiced his intent to install military men on the peace panel for the negotiations with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. This is on top of creating a junta by merging the civilian bureaucracy and military for his ”counter-insurgency” efforts through his whole-of-nation approach. He is thus relinquishing all prospects of a just and lasting peace as he prepares his full-blown dictatorship,” said NPA-EMC spokesperson Ka Karlos Manuel.

Cotabato City- Maguindanao and Cotabato City Rep. Bai Sandra Sema has filed House Bill No. 8880 seeking to declare Cotabato City as the capital of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), a report by Manila Bulletin said.

Sema said that, “Described as the crown jewel of the Bangsamoro Homeland, it is fitting and proper that Cotabato City be declared as the capital of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.”

Pinoys urged to push peace process forward on Araw ng Kagitingan

MANILA — Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito G. Galvez Jr., on the Araw ng Kagitingan, urged Filipinos to draw inspiration from the bravery of Filipino soldiers in pursuing the collective goal of achieving peace.

Galvez also paid tribute to Filipino soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942.

“Let us remember the gallantry of these heroes who even in the face of death, demonstrated to our nation and the whole world their immeasurable love for our motherland,” Galvez said in a statement.

Pinoys urged to push peace process forward on Araw ng Kagitingan

MANILA -- Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito G. Galvez Jr., on the Araw ng Kagitingan, urged Filipinos to draw inspiration from the bravery of Filipino soldiers in pursuing the collective goal of achieving peace.

Galvez also paid tribute to Filipino soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942.

“Let us remember the gallantry of these heroes who even in the face of death, demonstrated to our nation and the whole world their immeasurable love for our motherland,” Galvez said in a statement.

“We should draw inspiration from our fallen brothers who have displayed extraordinary courage during those trying times,” he added.

Although several decades have passed, Galvez said the lessons of the war still resonate among all Filipinos, particularly in the collective efforts to achieve nationwide peace.
