Army and PNP encounter NPA in Negros, capture 2 rebels
SAN CARLOS CITY, Negros Occidental – Combined forces of Army’s
62nd Infantry Battalion and 6th Special Action Battalion of PNP
Special Action Force while conducting community security operations,
encountered undetermined number of lawless armed elements believed to
be members of Northern Negros Front, Komiteng Rehiyonal-Negros under
alias Reboy at Sitio Natuyay, Brgy Cod-cod, San Carlos City, Negros
Occidental at about 7:15 am Wednesday March 18, 2015.
The encounter which lasted for fifteen (15) minutes resulted to the capture of certain Felipe E Bolo, 34 years old and Conrado B Sison, 19 years old both of Sitio Bedio, Brgy Codcod, San Carlos City.
The two (2) NPA members were apprised of their constitutional rights and turned-over to San Carlos City PNP for medical check-up and inquest proceedings.
Also recovered at the scene of encounter were five (5) homemade shot guns and one (1) cal. 357 revolver.
No reported casualty from the government troops while undetermined number of NPA were believed to be wounded due to bloodstains seen along the rebels’ route of withdrawal.
Lt Col Rommel Cordova, Commanding Officer of 62nd IB appreciated the valuable information from the residents about the presence of lawless armed elements which prompted his troops to respond to the call of the people to preserve the peace in the community.
“We call on those rebels to lay down their arms peacefully, be given proper medication and we ensure them that their rights will be respected,” Cordova added.
Government troops are now conducting follow-on operations to ensure the security and safety of the civilians and to run after the fleeing lawless elements.
Meantime, MGen Rey Leonardo Guerrero, Commander of 3ID instructed the troops to strictly follow the rule of law while conducting follow-on operations in the area.
“We in the Army, together with the local government, the civil society, peace advocates and other stakeholders reiterate our call for the NPA to shun violence, abandon hte armed struggle and talk with us peacefully. Working together is the only way for us to end the insurgency problem of our country,” Guerrero added.
