2 soldiers hurt in Samar town as NPA ambush Army trucks on way back from mercy mission
CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar -- (UPDATE - 10:05 a.m.) Two soldiers were reportedly wounded when Army trucks on their way back from delivering relief goods in typhoon-ravaged Eastern Samar were ambushed by suspected New People’s Army guerrillas in Pinabacdao town, Samar Friday morning.
Aside from the wounded soldiers, no other casualties have as yet been reported.
However, the ensuing firefight temporarily forced the closure of the national highway as police and military reinforcements rushed to the area.

Captain Isagani Viernes, acting chief of the 8th ID public affairs office, said the trucks were supposed to deliver relief goods to Northern Samar, which was also devastated by typhoon "Nona," after the Eastern Samar mercy mission.
Earlier this month, two soldiers of the 14th Infantry Battalion were killed and the unit’s monthly food allowance of P1.8 million carted away when communist rebels ambushed them on the highway in Catbalogan City.
