DAVAO CITY – The military on Wednesday accused the communist rebels of being insincere and blamed the New People’s Army (NPA) of violating their unilaterally-declared ceasefire following two alleged Christmas day attacks on government forces in Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley.

BLMI initiates Peace Dialogue with IPs from the Tri-Boundaries

COLUMBIO, SULTAN KUDARAT (December 28, 2017) ---- The Bangsamoro Leadership and Management Institute (BLMI) in coordination with the municipality of Columbio, Sultan Kudarat, and the109th Base Command of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front initiated a whole day dialogue between the MILF Peace Implementing Panel, and the B’laan tribe.

Vice-Mayor Edwin Bermudez opened the dialogue, and Professor Esmael A. Abdula, President of Kalilintad Peacebuilding Institute and BLMI Training Officer, explained the rationale, mechanics, and aims of the peace dialogue.

Palace: Christmas SOMO for the Filipino people

Malacañang on Thursday, December 21, said that the unilateral ceasefire declared by the President with communist rebels is for the sake of the Filipinos.

“[A]s the President himself declared in [Camp] Aguinaldo, he wanted the people to have less to worry about and that is why he implemented or he will implement this ceasefire,” he stressed.

Roque said the Commander-in-Chief could have completely ignored the tradition, but he chose to suspend combat operations.

“What is important is the President said in [Camp] Aguinaldo, he’s doing it for the Filipino people. Not for the NPA,” he said.

Unilateral declaration of ceasefire during the Christmas holidays and CPP anniversary

Under the direction of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), the National Operational Command of the New People’s Army (NPA) hereby unilaterally declares to all commands and units of the NPA and the people’s militia a ceasefire in observance of the Filipino people’s traditional holidays and the Party’s 49th anniversary. 

This unilateral declaration of ceasefire shall be in effect from 6:00 p.m. of December 23 to 6:00 p.m. of December 26; and 6:00 p.m. of December 30 to 6:00 p.m. of January 2, 2018.

CPP: Fascist liar Duterte will have himself to blame for rising resistance in Mindanao

The imposition of a one-year martial law extension in Mindanao will heighten the people’s resistance to Duterte’s dictatorship. More and more, he is pushing people to resort to armed struggle as they suffer under his intensifying fascist rule.

The approval was based on AFP reports of “385 atrocities” committed by the NPA in Mindanao, referring to tactical offensives by the people’s army against legitimate military targets and punitive actions against destructive and plunderous companies in the island. This is similar to his previous manufactured claim of 4.7 million drug users to justify his attacks against the urban and rural poor, as well as his political opponents.
