“He had the chance to visit, talk to, and receive field brief from Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., Commander, Western Mindanao Command AFP, together with other ground commanders,” Col. Edgard Arevalo, AFP Public Affairs Chief disclosed.
The AFP Chief expressed gratification to every Soldier, Airman, Sailor, Marine, Policeman, and Coast Guard personnel for successfully retaking the key enemy strongholds in Marawi City. He reiterated his support for the remaining tasks such as the clearing operations, post-conflict assessment, and rehabilitation of the city.
“Gen. Guerrero also met with the local government and community leaders at the ‘Task Force Bangon Marawi Pledge of Commitment and Support for Unity and Progress’ conference to talk about the projects and development efforts to bring the city back on its feet,” Col. Arevalo said.
“The role of the military as far as rebuilding Marawi City is concerned is two folds, one is the maintenance and security and peace and order, and the other is the support that we can provide in rebuilding and recovery efforts,” Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero said during the conference.
“Our ground commander Brig. Gen. Roseller Murillo has already given the go-signal for our post-conflict assessment teams to enter the area for them to be able to conduct their business,” Gen. Guerrero added.
The post-conflict assessment in the city will determine the amount needed to rehabilitate Marawi. The plan for the rehabilitation will be laid out and finalized on the first quarter of 2018.
