Army honors four retiring generals

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – Four retiring Army generals were honored by the Philippine Army in a traditional testimonial review held here on Thursday, April 27, 2017. 

Lieutenant General Mayoralgo M. Dela Cruz, The Inspector General of the Armed Forces of the Philippines; Brigadier General Gerry P. Amante, Commander of the AFP Munitions Control Center; Brigadier General Ramon C. Yogyog, Deputy Commander of the Special Operations Command; and Brigadier General Reuel L. Sorilla, The Adjutant General of the AFP, will retire from the military service upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.


Army Vice Commander Major General Harold Cabreros together with other HPA-based officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian employees were present during the ceremony and paid respect to the generals for their remarkable and committed service to the nation.

Dela Cruz, a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Matikas” class of 1983, prior to his current position, served in various vital posts. He served as Commanding Officer of the 1st Light Armor Battalion, Light Armor Brigade, and the 55th Infantry Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He also commanded the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade and later on the Mechanized Infantry Division (MID). He was the Commander of the Western Mindanao Command before he assumed post as the AFP’s Inspector General. Dela Cruz will bow out of the military service on May 1, 2017.

Amante, a member of the PMA “Maharlika” class of 1984, likewise held various roles in the Army. He earned the Outstanding Instructor Award when he served with the Training and Doctrine Command. He was also assigned with the Army’s Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans, OG5, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, J4, AFP and as the Chief of the Army Governance and Strategy Management Office. Amante will retire on May 9, 2017.

Yogyog, a member of PMA “Sandiwa” class of 1985 have been serving as a Special Operations soldier since the early stages of his career. He held various leadership roles with the First Scout Ranger Regiment when he was a Lieutenant. Later on, he also became a trainer and instructor at the Training and Doctrine Command. He was deployed in the United Nations peacekeeping missions as the Operations Officer and Deputy Commander of the Philippine Humanitarian Contingent to Iraq and later on as the Commander of the 9th Philippine Contingent to United Nations Mission in Haiti. Yogyog will retire on May 3, 2017.

Lastly, Sorilla who is also a member of the PMA “Sandiwa” Class of 1985 have also rendered exemplary service to the Philippine Army. He worked with the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Communications, Electronics and Information System, G5; and with the Intelligence and Security Group of the Philippine Army. Sorilla will retire on May 21, 2017.

The families of the retiring generals were also recognized during the ceremony for their important role in the success of the organization as the constant source of inspiration of the officers.#
