AFP Welcomes Australia’s Prime Minister in Camp Aguinaldo

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Rey Leonardo Guerrero welcomes Australian Prime Minister Hon. Malcolm Turnbull here, Monday, 13 November 2017.

“Prime Minister Turnbull is here at the General Headquarters to meet the AFP Chief of Staff and to witness the Demonstration on Urban Operations and Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Training, showcasing the long standing security relationships and cooperation between the AFP and the Australian Defence Force (ADF),” Marine Colonel Edgard Arevalo, Chief, Public Affairs Office AFP said.

The demonstration was also witnessed by Undersecretary Cardozo Luna of the Department of National Defense, key military leaders and soldiers from the AFP and ADF, and the Australian Embassy representatives.

The Prime Minister met with the Joint Task Group right after the demonstration. He also graciously entertained few questions from the media.

“Australian and Philippine militaries work together to enhance intelligence, surveillance, information sharing and reconnaissance capability in the southern part of our country,” Gen. Guerrero said.

“We need these kinds of engagements in Australia-Philippines defence forces to maintain and reinforce the long-standing relationship and cooperation to fight against terrorism,” Gen. Guerrero added.
