In his report on January 26 on GMA’s "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho”, Chino Gascon quoted Zubiri saying that the Senate's version of the BBL would provide the region with more funds and control over their natural resources, and taxes.
Zubiri, who chairs the Senate sub-committee for the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), along with Senators Risa Hontiveros, Sonny Angara, and JV Ejercito met with Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chairman AL HAJ Murad Ebrahim, and MILF 1st Vice Chairman, and chair of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission Ghazali Jaafar, and members of the MILF’s Central Committee.
"The financial and fiscal autonomies, the block grant, is a novel, new way of ensuring that the Bangsamoro region will have your fair share of financial assistance or funding for projects," Zubiri said as quoted by Gascon of GMA 7.
Al Haj Murad Ebrahim said, "This BBL is the fruit of more than 40 years of struggle. We are all aware that more than 100,000 people's lives were lost in this struggle...The BBL is one way where we see that these sufferings and this destruction could possibly be ended.”
"The more failure we face with the peace process, then expectedly, the more extremist group will be coming...The only counter dito (extremism) is makuha natin ang suporta ng majority of the people, na mayroon tayong political solution in place which is accepted and supported by the people," he added.
If the BBL is passed by Congress, it has to be ratified through a plebiscite to determine what regions or provinces want to be part of the Bangsamoro government, said the report by Mr Gascon. (Source: GMA News)
