544 minors employed by Communist Terrorist Groups in armed violence

CAMP AGUIALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Thursday reported that a total of 544 minors were employed by Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) in armed conflict since 2010.

Data collected by the AFP Human Rights Office (HRO) from field units covering children involved in armed conflict provided factual and verifiable basis for the report. The figures which had been recorded as of date are expected to rise, as AFP units continue their inquiry and tender reports on the activities of non-state armed groups.

Children claimed as NPA fighters are victims of AFP fake “surrenders”

The claims of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) of more than 500 children recruited as NPA combatants are completely false.

This is as false as the AFP’s claims of thousands of NPA “surrenderees” which has surpassed even its own estimate of the number of NPA members.

As we have emphasized in the past, the NPA prohibits the recruitment of combatants below 18 years old.

In contrast, the AFP has repeatedly violated children’s rights in the course of its dirty counterinsurgency war. It has become a common occurrence that children are forced to line up with their parents to be listed as “NPA surrenderees.”

Over 265 Thousand rescued, relief missions continue

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reported a total of 265,339 individuals rescued in typhoon-affected provinces through continuous search, rescue and retrieval (SRR) operations as of Monday, November 16.

Government forces saved 1,078 lives from the dangerous flooding in Northern Luzon including the Cagayan Province while 263,444 individuals were rescued in Southern Luzon following the wrath of Typhoon Ulysses. SRR teams also helped 817 persons in the National Capital Region which was also affected by the recent typhoon.

The National Democratic Front-Eastern Visayas condemns the officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines for the spate of human rights violations by troops of the 93rd Infantry Battalion conducting pursuit operations against the New People’s Army in Carigara, Leyte last November 13.

Soldiers illegally raided the house of couple Edencio and Nora Dionaldo and then forcibly took seven of their children, including five minors with one ill with meningitis.

AFP warns public of CPP-NPA’s recruitment modus

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Wednesday took to the Senate its genuine concern for celebrities and vulnerable sectors that might be taken advantage of by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

The AFP Chief of Staff General Gilbert Gapay wanted to raise the public’s awareness about the CPP-NPA’s modus of capitalizing on and exploiting the idealism of youth, students and celebrities who have the capability to influence people. It is in line with the military’s peace and development campaign to shield and protect the people, institutions, and vulnerable sectors from the recruitment of communist terrorist groups (CTG).

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army mobilized its ground units to assist in the disaster and relief efforts in the aftermath of the devastation caused by Typhoon Rolly in the Bicol Region.

The 9th Infantry “

Team SPEAR

” Division (9ID) under Maj. Gen. Henry A Robinson Jr., deployed soldiers in Albay and Catanduanes province to assist various Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMOs) in rescuing residents who are heavily affected due to heavy flooding and for the clearing operations in typhoon-stricken areas.

Mass mobilization for disaster response and recovery

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) has mobilized all its forces in the Bicol and Southern Tagalog provinces where supertyphoon Rolly slammed today resulting in massive floods, landslides, destruction of property, displacement, injuries and a number of deaths. Houses, farms and sources of livelihood, both in the cities and countryside, are severely damaged.

20 villages in Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur provinces receive QIPs from Relief International, local civic group

COTABATO CITY – The Relief International (RI) and its local partner, the United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD), awarded quick Impact Projects (QIPs) to twenty villages in the provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur last weekend.

Maria Liza Dioneda, RI project manager, said the QIPs included renovation of barangay health stations, water points, installation of solar street lights, construction of multi-purpose halls and livelihood support for women.
