Outstanding AFP Reservists, Reserve Units awarded
CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The country’s outstanding Reservists and Reserve Units were recognized by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) during the closing ceremony of the 42nd National Reservist Week (NRW) on Friday, September 17.
“The services of our reservists significantly augment the efforts of our regular force in protecting the interest and well-being of our people. The AFP leadership recognizes their active support especially in nation-building and humanitarian assistance and disaster response,” Lieutenant General Jose C Faustino Jr, AFP Chief of Staff said.
Among the recognized reservists were Captain Jose V. Gochangco of the Judge Advocate General Service who was awarded the AFP Reservist Officer of the Year for company grade level; Navy Captain Aldrin C. Cuña, the AFP Reservist Officer of the Year for field grade level; and Navy Chief Petty Officer Edna Rhea S. Cañero, the AFP Enlisted Reservist of the Year.
The Outstanding Ready Reserve Units of the year were the 2nd Air Force Wing Reserve for Wing Level and the 31st Air Force Group Reserve for Group Level.
The 2320th PAF Affiliated Group Reserve (Clark Development Corporation) was adjudged as the AFP Affiliated Reserve Unit of the Year while the 246th NROTCU Adamson University was declared as the AFP ROTC Unit of the Year.
Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar, the guest of honor and speaker duly represented by Assistant Secretary Mel john I Versoza handed the winners with the Plaque of Merit. He was assisted by Major General Eugenio V Hernandez PN(M), the Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs, J9.
The ceremony was held at Lapu-Lapu Grandstand in Camp Aguinaldo where a static display of capabilities was conducted. Safety and health protocols were strictly followed to prevent the spread of COVID19.
This year’s NRW is anchored on the theme “Laang-Kawal: Sulong Tungo sa Matatag na Sandatahang Lakas, Katuwang sa Seguridad at Pag-Unlad ng Bansa.” During the week-long celebration, series of contests were conducted to promote and develop public support and awareness of the importance of the Citizen Armed Forces.
The champions were Sergeant Paul Vince Mike Mangaoang of the 2ARCEN, ARC for the photo exhibit contest; Sergeant Shiela May Pates of the 15RCDC, ARESCOM for poster making; and Petty Officer 2 Ronald Delos Reyes for essay writing.
By virtue of the Presidential Proclamation 627 of 1995, the NRW also known as “Linggo ng Laang-Kawal” is annually celebrated to honor the accomplishments of the reservists and their incessant support to the AFP in fulfilling its mandate./// (Photo from AFP Reserve Command)
