New Leaders Take the Helm at AFP's Western Mindanao Command and Office of The Inspector General
CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) held a joint change of command and chief of office ceremony for Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM) and Office of The Inspector General on Friday, 03 November 2023 at the WESMINCOM Gymnasium, Camp Navarro, Upper Calarian, Zamboanga City.
Lieutenant General William N. Gonzales, who previously held the position of The Inspector General, AFP, officially assumed as Commander of WESMINCOM. Prior to his previous position, he headed the Joint Task Force Sulu and 11th Infantry Division in concurrent capacity. He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Makatao” Class of 1989.
Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Steve D. Crespillo the outgoing Commander of WESMINCOM swapped positions with Lt. Gen. Gonzales to assume as the new Inspector General of the AFP. He previously served as the Vice Commander of the Philippine Army and Chief of the Office of the Army Ethical Standards and Public Accountability. He is a member of the PMA “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990.
General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., the AFP Chief of Staff presided over the joint ceremonies which was seen as a symbol of continuity within the military organization. It also represents the AFP’s commitment to maintain a high level of leadership as it continue to perform the mandate of protecting the people and securing the state.///
