Army Troops Retrieves War Materials of NPA in ZamboangadelSur
Camp Sang-an, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur–The
troops of 32nd Infantry (DAREDEVIL) Battalion (32IB), 1ID, PA
together with personnel of Dumingag Municipal Police Station
(Dumingag MPS) successfully seized several war materiel during a
joint law enforcement effort at Barangay Saad, Dumingag, Zamboanga
del Sur last September 16, 2014.
The Bayanihan Team of 32IB with elements of Dumingag MPS while doing survey and dialogue with the community chanced upon two (2) residents carrying dilapidated sacks, Upon noticing the troops, the duo ran away causing suspicion among the troops, Along the way, they noticed scattered ammunition of AK-47 Rifle that led to the house of a certain Joel Sumagop the same person who ran away. When confronted to bring out the contents of the sacks he was carrying, . The troops found hundreds of ammunitions and other war materiel. The troops also noticed several sacks at the house of Mr. Sumagop,
Recovered during the scene : are the following; seven hundred sixty-five (765) rounds of 7.62 x .39 ammunition (AK 47), one (1) Improvised Explosive Device (IED), seven (7) sets of arming device for IED, thirty-four (34) pieces of blasting caps, fifty (50) meters electrical wire, eighteen (18) pieces of dry cell battery, forty seven (47) pairs of (black) sweat shirts and jogging pants, other personal items, toiletries, food stuff, medical supplies, kitchen utensils and sewing materials.
Joel Sumagop was immediately brought to Dumingag MPS for proper disposition and appropriate filling of cases.
In his statement, LTC GREGORIO S NIEVERAS, Commanding Officer of 32IB commented that the recovered war materiel and other recovered items were believed to be supplies for the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in the area. Further, he stressed that the successful effort will definitely bring drastic effects to the illegal activities of the said threat group. The success of the operation / activity is a manifestation of a good partnership of the AFP and PNP and serious campaign against the Local Communist Movement to abandon armed struggle.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Gerardo F Barrientos Jr AFP, Commander of 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division said, “I commend the Daredevil troopers who always shown their dedication in their mandated task security of the community. Rest assured the soldiers under the Tabak Division will always be alert and vigilant in protecting the people.”
