AKBAYAN partylist supports BBL
The appearance and participation of Congressman Walden Bello of AKBAYAN Party list in a rally in front of the House of Representatives in Quezon City on January 20 was lauded by rally participants. Congressman Bello expressed his support for the immediate passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).
“Matagal na talaga dapat na-approve ito kaya sumasama kami sa call ninyo na huwag ng patagalin ng kongreso ang pagpasa sa batas tungkol sa BBL. Panahon na talaga ito. Kasi matagal na ho dapat ito.” Bello said. (This (BBL) should have been approved long time ago that is why we are joining with you in calling Congress not to lengthen the deliberations of the proposed law and pass it).
The BBL is in congress for deliberations. The proposed bill requires a majority vote from the congressmen and congresswomen for it to be enacted.
He divulged that the Moros have many allies in congress who are supporting the BBL but there were also who are opposed to BBL whose names he did not mention. These oppositors of BBL will block the passage of the law, he also said.
“But we just want to assure you that they will not succeed. AKBAYAN will do everything in support to this law both outside and inside congress even to the extent of joining with you in massive mobilization to push for the passage of this law”, he added.
Bello is confident for the possible enactment of the proposed Bangsamoro law through the support of majority of members of the House of Representatives.
“I am very confident that with your mobilization, with your support and active involvement this law will be passed. Bello said.”
The demonstrators were mostly Bangsamoro men, women and youth residing in Metro Manila supported by their Christians friends who have been sympathetic to Moro long years of struggle for self-governance.
