“It’s not the MILF but the GPH that did not comply with the Peace Agreement”: Iqbal
The Chairman of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Peace Panel Mohagher Iqbal told
officers and some members of Alliance of Concerned Bangsamoro Women for Peace and Development (ACBW) in an a gathering at Cafe Martina, University of Southern Mindanao (USM), Kabacan, North Cotabato on April 23, 2016 that, “It is not the MILF but it is the Government of the Philippines (GPH) that did not comply with the peace agreement”.
The affair was an advocacy for peace and development jointly organized by ACBW and the USM Muslim Educators, Employees and Alumni Association (USMMEEAA). Another speaker was Prof. Aboud Sayyed Linga, a member of the MILF Peace Panel.
Key officials of the University President, Dr. Francisco Gil N. Garcia and Director for Instruction Dr. Abubakar A. Murray attended the gathering. A representative from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) Gadzali B. Macalunas was also present.
The elaborative speech of Chairman Iqbal delved on the peace process. He recalled that at the beginning of the peace talks, the issue was only one, the so called Bangsamoro Problem. He was wondering why the Bangsamoro people became the problem. They in fact defended the Bangsamoro Homeland for more than 300 years against Spain, 70 years against America and more than forty years against Philippine dominion.
The MILF Panel Chair said: “It is not true that Congress run out of time concerning the BBL. It was submitted to them in 2014 but they continued to delay it. Other bills were just filed in 2016 yet they were successfully passed compared to the BBL which was submitted to them many years ahead”.
