NPA eyed behind spate of killings in Negros Oriental

MANILA, Philippines – Police said Friday that the communist New People’s Army (NPA) could be behind the recent spate of killings in Negros Oriental province in a bid to show the group’s supposed strength to the public and state forces.

Col. Raul Tacaca, director of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, told INQUIRER.net that witnesses have pointed out to the possible link of the NPA to a series of shooting incidents in the province since last week.

Curbing terror, insurgency essential for economic progress: DND

MANILA -- Security threats must first be neutralized for the Philippines to achieve economic progress, the Department of National Defense (DND) said Tuesday.

“The first thing that we should be doing which we have been doing all along is to try to eradicate terrorism or communist insurgency all over the Philippines. The President (Rodrigo Duterte) has been constantly reminding us that we cannot progress until we eradicate these menaces to society,” Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said during the post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) press conference held at the Asean Theater at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) on Tuesday.

As the country moves to achieve these goals, he said the Department of National Defense (DND) is constantly improving the capabilities of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Requisites in revolutionary class struggle for building the socialist future

Introduction

There are five general requisites for building the socialist future. First, learn from the historical experience of the revolutionary proletariat in building socialism in the 20th century. Second, grasp the potential for socialist revolution in various countries in the current circumstances. Third, build the subjective forces of the revolution, such as the revolutionary party of the proletariat, the mass organizations, effective alliances, the people’s army or self- defense units, and the organs of political power. Fourth, carry out the various forms of revolutionary struggle to overthrow the class dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. Fifth, build the socialist state of the proletariat on the basis of a broad people’s alliance, and engage in continuous socialist revolution in the political, socio-economic and cultural fields.

PRRD lauded for AFP modernization, doubling of troops pay

MANILA --- For Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, President Rodrigo R. Duterte's continuous support to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) modernization program and doubling of the salaries of all military personnel are his most significant achievements as far as the security sector is concerned.

Lorenzana said military personnel can focus on their job better as they know they can adequately support their families with their salaries and do their mandated duty with the new equipment acquired.

Explosives and Ordnance Units respond to abandoned motorcycle at Army Headquarters

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila - At around 12pm today, an abandoned red motorcycle was parked at the gate of the Philippine Army Wellness Center along Lawton Avenue and Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.

As part of precautionary measures, soldiers from the Military Police Battalion immediately cordoned the area while military working dogs of the K9 Battalion were deployed to determine if there were explosives attached to the said motorcycle. In compliance with the protocol, the explosives and ordnance units of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army conducted water disruption on the motorcycle as soon as the bomb-sniffing dogs indicated that traces of explosives could be present. There was no explosion as a result of the water disruption.

In focusing on the issue of the West Philippine Sea and looking at the involvements of the Philippines, China and US, we must understand the following points:

1. China is in gross violation of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and in contempt of the 2016 judgment of the Permanent Arbitration Court in favor of the Philippines by continuing to pursue the unlawful claim of ownership over 90 percent of the South China Sea; encroaching on 100 percent of the extended continental shelf and at least 80 percent of the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the Philippines; and building and militarizing artificial islands within the Philippine EEZ.

Murad accepts Piñol as BARRM ‘point man’: PRRD

MANILA – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) interim Chief Minister Al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim has accepted the proposal to designate Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol as the “point man” to develop Mindanao.

President Rodrigo Duterte bared this a day after meeting Murad in Malacañang on Wednesday (July 10).

“Yeah,” Duterte told reporters in a chance interview when asked if Murad accepted Duterte’s proposal to make Piñol the BARMM point person.

“Well, we are trying to fine-tune. And that is why the truth of the matter is I really transferred Piñol to assist them,” he added.

Army Chief pays visit to Russian Ground Forces

 FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto pays an official visit to the Ground Forces of the Russian Federation on July 8 at Moscow, Russia.

Upon the invitation of Russian Ground Forces Army Gen. Oleg Salyukov, a meeting was conducted to discuss issues of bilateral military cooperation, training of Filipino servicemen in Russian military schools and participation of Philippine teams in the International Army Games.

Reaction to the UNHRC resolution to investigate Duterte killings

1. The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) welcomes the resolution of the UN Human Rights Commission seeking a comprehensive report on the widespread killings carried out both by police and state-endorsed death squads in the course of the Duterte government’s so-called drug war.

The tactic of mass killings against drug suspects and its terror effect is now being widely used against the patriotic and democratic forces and against all forms of opposition to stifle dissent and put down the people’s resistance and stifle their demand for justice.

2. The statement of the PNP Chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde that the CPP is behind the UNHRC resolution is extremely laughable and shows the extent to which Duterte’s minions would invent scenarios and act stupid in their desperation to keep the truth from coming out. In their anti-communist delusion, Duterte’s minions have resorted to red-tagging even the UNHRC itself.
