Armed Forces Chief tests positive for COVID-19

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 27) — Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief Felimon Santos Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19 and will undergo strict quarantine starting Friday.

AFP in a statement said Santos received his test result on Friday. His swab was taken on March 23. This comes after he presided over the donning of rank for a promoted senior AFP officer who later tested positive for the viral disease.

Army receives thermal scanners, eye protectors, masks from PNOC-EC

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila - The Philippine National Oil Company Exploration Corporation (PNOC-EC) donated 49 thermal scanners, eye protectors. face masks, and gloves to the Philippine Army today, March 26, 2020 at the Philippine Army Officers Clubhouse, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

In a ceremonial turn-over, Retired Lt. Gen. Rozzano D. Briguez, the President and CEO of PNOC-EC, showed his gratitude and support to the Army frontliners through the donation of thermal scanners, eye protectors, gloves and masks in order for them to be equipped in combatting the threats of COVID-19.

Upon the recommendation of the Negotiating Panel of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), by way of direct response to the call of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for a global ceasefire between warring parties for the common purpose of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) hereby orders all commands and units of the New People’s Army (NPA) and the people’s militias to observe a nationwide ceasefire that will take effect from 00:00H of 26 March 2020 to 23:59H of 15 April 2020.

OPAPP forms center to assist BARMM in fight vs COVID-19

COTABATO CITY – The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP) has created a coordinating center to ensure harmony among local government units (LGUs) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a statement, OPAPP announced its creation of the Coordinating Center Mindanao on COVID-19 (CCMC) “as part of the agency’s efforts to monitor the situation” in BARMM amid the State of Health Emergency in the country.

Ceasefire call highlights PRRD's desire to save lives: AFP

MANILA – The pronouncements of President Rodrigo Duterte calling for a ceasefire with New People's Army (NPA) communist rebels as the government strives to contain the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) highlights his genuine concern for the public.

"The pronouncement of the President (calling for a ceasefire with the NPA) manifests his yearning for the safety and well-being of our countrymen in the face of Covid-19 pandemic," said Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Gen. Felimon Santos, Jr., in a statement sent to reporters Tuesday.

Santos said this was brought about by the President's desire to ensure that the unimpeded delivery of government service to the people shaken by the effects of Covid-19.

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army on Thursday, March 19, 2020, provided assistance to actress Bela Padilla in the repacking, transporting, and distribution of relief goods to COVID-19 crisis hit individuals.

After Padilla raised a sum of 3.3 million pesos to fund a humanitarian assistance program for the affected individuals of the Luzon wide Enhanced Community Quarantine, said actress coordinated with the PA to fast track the distribution.

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Commanding General Philippine Army, Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay congratulates the joint AFP- PNP force for a successful joint law enforcement operation, which resulted to the neutralization of top-ranking CPP-NPA-Terrorists leader and two other CNTs members at Lourdes Subdivision Extension, Barangay Queen of Peace, Baguio City, today, Mar. 3, 2020.

Identified as Julius Soriano Giron; Chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines and a member of the CPP-NPA's Executive Committee; was served with a Search Warrant Number 6014 for violating RA 10591 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition) along with Warrant of Arrests for various crimes such as murder, frustrated murder, arson, and rebellion.

NPA leader, 2 others killed in Baguio clash

MANILA – A ranking Communist Party of the Philippines- New People's Army (CPP-NPA) leader was killed in joint police and military operation in Baguio City early Friday.

Julius Soriano Giron, head of the National Military Commission of the Communist Party of the Philippines, and his two companions were killed after resisting arrest, prompting authorities to retaliate in a search warrant operation in Barangay Queen of Peace in Baguio City around 3:30 a.m.
