CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City--The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police assured everyone that "mishaps" such as the Jolo shooting incident will not happen again as their top leaders meet in Camp Crame Wednesday, September 23.

The meeting of top security and law enforcement officials led by AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay and PNP Chief PGen Camilo Cascolan focused on discussing the status of internal security concerns.

On Facebook’s takedown of Duterte-linked troll accounts

As people have long suspected, Duterte’s claims to popular support is all a big hoax. This is now confirmed by the Facebook takedown of around 200 accounts and pages, many found to be based in Fujian, China, and with at least 55 directly linked to the Philippine military and police. These accounts have been found to be interlinked to close to 300,000 accounts where these carry out “coordinated inauthentic behaviour.”

AFP Chief hosts meeting with VP Robredo, assures support to humanitarian programs

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) hosted a meeting with Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo on Tuesday, September 15 at the AFP General Headquarters Building.

The Vice President was received by AFP Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gilbert Gapay in a customary arrival honors held at the GHQ canopy area. She congratulated the former for being appointed as the top military officer of the armed forces. They last met during the wake of the Four PA officers killed in Jolo, Sulu while Lt. Gen. Gapay was still the Commanding General of the Philippine Army.

NDFP to engage with VP Robredo for peace talks resumption

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) yesterday expressed intent to engage in discussions with Vice Pres. Leni Robredo regarding the issues in its peace negotiations with the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP).

In an interview with Ang Bayan, recently appointed NDFP negotiating panel interim chairperson Julie de Lima said that “the NDFP, including its panel, should hold discussions with opposition parties, in particular, the Liberal Party,” and “engage the constitutional successor to press for the resumption of the peace negotiation as a rallying point in the effort to oust Duterte.”

On Duterte’s granting of absolute pardon to Laude killer US Marine Pemberton

Duterte’s granting of absolute pardon to US Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton is an act of subservience to the US government and military, a grave injustice to Jennifer Laude and her family and, an act of national indignity and treachery to the Filipino people. Allowing Pemberton to go free without having properly served his sentence must be denounced with full force.

The lack of justice in the Laude killing demonstrates in no uncertain terms why the US-Philippine Visiting Forces Agreement of 1998 violates Philippine sovereignty and why it must be abrogated. The VFA gives US military personnel extraordinary rights while in the Philippines which by default exempts them from coverage of local laws. Under the VFA, several killings and a number of abuses committed by American marines remain unpunished.
