AFP, PNP affirm strong partnership in joint peace, security council meeting

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City--The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police assured everyone that "mishaps" such as the Jolo shooting incident will not happen again as their top leaders meet in Camp Crame Wednesday, September 23.

The meeting of top security and law enforcement officials led by AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay and PNP Chief PGen Camilo Cascolan focused on discussing the status of internal security concerns.

"So far for the first months of the year, we have posted significant accomplishments. We have been doing things jointly and we are here not only to review our lines of efforts but more importantly to strengthen this partnership," Lt. Gen. Gapay said.

"We assure you that similar incidents will not happen again. We are strong in our partnership and brotherhood," PGen Cascolan added.

Among those discussed is the status of Joint Campaign Plan Kapanatagan, which is a holistic plan that guides joint operations of AFP-PNP to defeat all threat groups and criminal elements and contribute in the socio economic development of the country.

The AFP and PNP Chiefs also signed the Joint Letter Directive No. 3, which prescribes evaluation parameters and validation procedures for gains from ground operations.

It emphasizes the importance of weakening and dismantling so-called guerilla fronts of the New People's Army, instead of just clearing their geographical areas of influence and operation.

As such, the body also confirmed the dismantling of eight guerilla fronts and weakening of five others this year.

The AFP Chief of Staff and the Chief PNP were joined by AFP area commanders and police regional directors.

Also present were representatives from the Department of National Defense, Department of the Interior and Local Government, National Security Council, and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency.

"Now more than ever, this partnership forged between the PNP and the AFP is much needed in attaining our common vision for a safe, secure, and progressive Philippines," PGen Cascolan said.

"This is a great avenue for us to further improve interoperability between the AFP and the PNP. Rest assured that we in the AFP will remain committed in supporting our partners in the PNP in addressing the peace and security concerns of the country," Lt. Gen. Gapay added.///
