MILF Base Commanders, officers in Lanao del Sur set for community facilitators

September 8, 2020, Cotabato City - Top brass of the North Eastern Mindanao Front, Lanao del Sur, of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces, MILF have completed the Training of Trainers  (ToT) facilitated by the School of Peace and Democracy (SPD) - Bangsamoro conducted at Apple Tree Resort and  Hotel, Taboc, Opol, Misamis Oriental on September 2-3.

The activity was in preparation for the decommissioning of combatants of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF), Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as part of the normalization track of the MILF and GPH peace talk.  

North Eastern Mindanao Front Commander, now Member of the Parliament (MP) of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority, BARMM, Jannati Mimbantas led the 24 participants who represent the 101st, 103rd, 119th, 120th, 121st, 122nd, National Defense Base Commands, and North Eastern Mindanao Front. 

MP Mimbantas said that the training boosted the morale of the BIAF, enlightened them of the current situation, reminded them of the cause of the struggle. “This serves as educational information on moral governance, politics, religion, culture, Jihad, and BARMM government. He expressed his support to the program and thanked the UNDP and the SPD for providing the training to his men. This will be a key weapon for sustainable development in the Bangsamoro communities, he pointed out.
 
The training covers the topics on Bangsamoro History and the Peace Process, My History in BIAF, MILF, BOL, Islamic Values, Leadership and Management, Moral Governance, Conflict Resolution, Managing the Package, and Community Development.

Based on the said topics, the former combatants are trained and capacitated with skills that will help them transition to civilian life. This is one of the most crucial components of normalization and peace process in the Bangsamoro Region as it puts the guns and weapons of the combatants beyond use. 

In his speech during the closing program, Mr. Enrico Gaveglia, the Resident Representative Ad interim of the UNDP Philippines expressed support and hope for further collaboration for the success of the activities.   

In his phone patch message to the participants, Mr. Akmad Alon Ibrahim, the head of the Secretariat of the MILF Joint Normalization Committee and the Admin Officer of the MILF General Staff voiced out his support to the program and extended words of gratitude to the UNDP and to the SPD for continuing enthusiasm to the Bangsamoro.

The participants are expected to cascade their learning as new community facilitators in their camps. This is the second batch after a the same training conducted to the 111th, 112th, 107th and 104th Base Commands, National Guard, General Headquarters and Bangsamoro Women Auxiliary Brigade (BWAB) held at Eden Nature Park in Toril, Davao City  on February 22-24, 2020.
The SPD is part of the START-Peace Project of UNDP Philippines with support from the Australian Government and in partnership with the BARMM Government.
