Army reservists showcase disaster response capability
FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – Army reservists, including doctors, nurses, and aid men, demonstrated their disaster response capability yesterday, October 19, 2021, in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
A team of 40 reservists from the 1502nd Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion (RRIBn) of the 1502nd Community Defense Center (CDC) demonstrated their capability in coordination with the Agusan del Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Office of Civil Defense, and other private sector partners.
"To further enhance their capabilities, reservists are also undergoing Basic Life Support (BLS), Incident Command System (ICS), and Water Search and Rescue Training (WASAR) courses," 1502nd CDC commander Maj. Marlon Baraga said.
Meanwhile, the Commanding General, Philippine Army Lt. Gen. Andres Centino, lauded the reservists for their crucial role in nation-building.
"I commend our reserve units for their steadfast commitment in upgrading their disaster-response capabilities. Rest assured, the Philippine Army leadership is committed to the development of a capable and mobilizable reserve force that will effectively complement our regular troops," said Lt. Gen. Centino.
The Army currently has more than 45,000 ready reserves and 681,000 standby reserves who have been performing humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and other non-combat missions. #
