AFP joins send-off of election-duty forces
CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), represented by The Deputy Chief of Staff AFP LtGen Charlton Sean Gaerlan, joined the turnover and send-off ceremony of the mutli-agency force that will help ensure security, order, and integrity of the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on October 30.
More than 1,100 personnel from the AFP, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, and Department of Education were present in the ceremony held at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame on October 23 and attended by Commission on Elections Chairman George Erwin Garcia.
Overall, 494, 662 DepEd, 187,000 PNP, 117,585 AFP, and 30,300 PCG personnel were dedicated for COMELEC duty nationwide.
In his speech delivered by LtGen Gaerlan, AFP Chief of Staff (CSAFP) General Romeo Brawner Jr ensured the AFP’s commitment to the peace and security of the BSKE.
“The AFP stands together with our partners from other government agencies and our counterparts in law enforcement to ensure peace and security during the BSKE on October 30,” the CSAFP said.
He also urged the members to leave behind political affiliations and personal interests as they aim to “create an environment where every Filipino can exercise their right to vote without fear and restriction.” ///
