CSAFP: ‘OUR TROOPS FOUGHT BACK’

AGUINALDO, Quezon City—General Romeo Brawner Jr, Chief of Staff of the
Armed Forces of the Philippines, said that soldiers conducting a
rotation and resupply mission at the BRP Sierra Madre (LS57) at Ayungin
Shoal on June 17 fought back with “everything that they had.”
“The good thing is that we fought. The Chinese Coast
Guard personnel had bladed weapons and our personnel fought with bare
hands. That is what’s important. We were outnumbered and their weapons
were unexpected but our personnel fought with everything that they had,”
General Brawner Jr added.
The bravery and dedication of operating troops stood out
against overwhelming and armed aggression by a careless world
superpower.
“Only pirates do this. Only pirates board, steal, and
destroy ships, equipment, and belongings,” the CSAFP said, describing
the China Coast Guard and its actions in the last RoRe.
In the end, General Brawner Jr said that the missions
will continue. “That is our obligation and that is our right. We will
not leave Ayungin Shoal.”
