Zamboanga Peninsula ends communist terrorism
FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – The 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division, Philippine Army together with the Philippine National Police and the local government declared the Zamboanga Peninsula as “insurgency-free during the 4th Quarter Regular Meeting of the Joint Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (JRTF-ELCAC) Region 9 at the R&B Pavilion Hall, Mibang Hotel, Dipolog City.
This monumental achievement highlights the successful dismantling of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army. Seven (7) Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) guerilla fronts and three (3) regional CTG units were also eradicated, leading to zero CTG-affected barangays and zero active CTG members throughout the region. The dismantling of the WMRPC was accomplished through sustained operations from 2019 to 2024 and the concerted efforts of th Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, the Provincial/City/Municipal/Barangay Task Forces on Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (P/C/M/B TF-ELCAC) and the community.
The Army leadership lauds the genuine public service of all involved in totally ending Communist NPA Terrorism in Zamboanga Peninsula and urges all other parts of the country to emulate the same feat to fully boost the economic and development potential of their provinces.
