CHR to probe allegations Aetas forced by soldiers to eat human feces

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Human Rights has vowed to investigate claims that Aetas suspected of being in cahoots with communist rebels were forced by the military to eat human feces.

CHR Spokesperson Jacqueline de Guia said this after an activist group advocating indigenous people (IP) rights said that three individuals from San Marcelino in Zambales were tortured and detained by members of the Philippine Army (PA) 7th Infantry Division (7ID)

CA Confirms 4-Star Nomination of AFP Chief, Promotions of 29 Senior Officers

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Commission on Appointments (CA) confirmed the nomination of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gilbert I. Gapay to the rank of four-star General on Wednesday at the Senate of the Philippines, Pasay City.

Senator Panfilo Lacson said that the Commission on Appointments' Committee on National Defense found that Lieutenant General Gapay and 29 other Senior Officers are all fit and qualified for the ranks given to them.

Fascist onslaught in Zambales paves way for renewed plunder

In August 21, around 190 Aeta families flocked to Barangay Aglao in San Marcelino, Zambales to seek refuge in the barangay’s covered court. Majority of the approximately 660 refugees are children. Terror drove the Aetas from their community in neighboring Barangay Buhawen, after four combat helicopters rained bombs in Sitio Lumibao .

At least nine residents fleeing the bombings were illegally detained by operating troops on the charge that they were members of the New People’s Army. Four of the victims are minors. Residents Witi Ramos, Jepoy Ramos and Nalin Ramos, who opted to stay behind, were accosted and tortured. In an act of subhuman cruelty, soldiers forced Nalin Ramos to eat their feces.
