Sulu veteran assumes as Commander of JTF-NCR

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—Brigadier General Allan Arrojado, a former Commander of Joint Task Force Sulu, was designated as Commander of the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region effective 03 January 2018.

AFP Chief of Staff General Rey Leonardo Guerrero cited BGen Arrojado’s “expertise and experience in counterterrorism” having served in positions of major responsibility against the Abu Sayyaf Group and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.

DOJ to include ambuscades in petition to declare CPP, NPA as ‘terror groups'

The Department of Justice (DOJ) will cite numerous ambuscades carried out by suspected communist rebels in the government’s petition to legally declare the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and the New People’s Army (NPA) as terrorist groups.

Among the attacks cited was the ambush done by suspected communist rebels against soldiers responding to help civilians in a storm-hit village in Catubig, Northern Samar, according to Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Peter Ong.

Joma’s wish: For Duterte to revive peace talks

LUCENA CITY — Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria Sison has a New Year’s wish: For President Rodrigo Duterte to resume the stalled peace negotiation.

In an online interview on Sunday from the Netherlands, where he is on self-exile, Sison said that Mr. Duterte “should return to the negotiating table” in 2018.
