NPA couple collared by government security forces
CAMP GENERAL EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City –
Joint elements of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippines
National Police arrested a leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) and
his wife early morning of Thursday (April 23) in Batangas.
NPA leader Norberto Boricco, aka Isaw,
and his NPA wife known for her aliases Indi/Eldi were arrested in a
joint law enforcement by AFP and PNP in Barangay Niogan, Lemery,
Batangas Thursday.
The couple was arrested through the strength of warrant of arrests for their involvement in cases of murders and frustrated murders perpetrated in Samar.
Authorities recovered from their
possession one (1) hand grenade, a laptop computer, a smartphone, six
(6) cellphones and seven (7) flash drives.
Borrico is the Front Secretary and Finance Officer of the NPAs operating in the municipalities of Northern Samar.
He led the twin attacks in the towns of
Oras and Arteche in Eatern Samar in 2003 and 2013 where eleven (11)
soldiers, two (2) policemen, five (5) government militiamen and one (1)
civilian were killed.
The arrest of the couple is a result of a
tip from an NPA supporter who confessed that he was already tired of
receiving extortion threats and demands from the NPA bandits.
General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., the
AFP Chief, has commended the operating troops for the successful arrest
of the notorious criminals.
