FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army’s (PA) 6th Infantry Division - Kampilan (6ID) demilitarized 458 guns during the celebration of its 32nd Founding Anniversary in Camp Siongco, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, today, Oct. 25, 2019.

The PA Commanding General Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto graced the event as the guest of honor and speaker, and led the demilitarization of the firearms alongside the 6ID Commander, Maj. Gen. Diosdado C. Carreon.

The said firearms were captured, confiscated, surrendered and recovered by the Kampilan Division from Nov. 2018 to Jan. 2019 under its military and law enforcement operations in accordance with the presidential directive to get rid of loose firearms.

Out of the 458 firearms, 80 were recovered, two were captured and the rest were surrendered. “Their former owners have made the courageous decision to give up armed struggle and live peacefully with their neighbors and channel their energies towards nations-building,” said Alberto in his address.

Alberto further recognized the 32 years of commitment and dedication of the Kampilan Troopers for the service and sacrifice to the people.

“Together with all its stakeholders, 6ID moves forward with the same fire and commitment to defend and protect the state and its citizens from all threats and disasters. It will remain as a reliable partner in the realization of the region’s hopes and dreams of a bright and prosperous future,” said Carreon.

“Today, we have destroyed more than just the tools of war and death. We are also getting rid of the grim reminders of our conflict and division that slows down our march towards peace and progress,” added Alberto.#
