BTA in Collaboration with MPCFI Provides Seminar on Small and Medium Enterprises to Livelihood Assistance Beneficiaries

Cotabato City- The beneficiaries of livelihood assistance project implemented by the Mindanao Peoples Care Foundation, Inc. (MPCFI), also known as Katiyakap Foundation met in Cotabato City to attend a Seminar on Small and Medium Enterprises with the theme, ‘a successful business begins with little investment,’ last September 26, 2019.

The seminar is part of an on-going project of the two Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Members of Parliament Hon. Mohagher Iqbal and Hon. Zul Qarneyn Abas, MD.  The project which is named managing a Successful Sari-Sari (variety) Store Pangkabuhayan (livelihood) project is made possible through the initiatives of the said Members of Parliament with MPCFI as implementing partner.

With 21 beneficiaries as participants from Cotabato City, and various municipalities in Maguindanao province of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the activity was conducted at the MPCFI Office in Cotabato City.

Aligned with its theme, the purpose of conducting this seminar is to educate the participants on the basics of how to effectively and efficiently start a small business such as Sari-Sari (variety) Store and correctly grow it for successful investment.

The seminar was facilitated by the Social Enterprise and Development (SEED) Initiative with Datunot Ali Akmad, R.S.W. as the main lecturer.

Along with his fruitful presentation, Akmad emphasized four major things to be considered in running a business, such as: capital, location, competitors and workers.

He also included tips for growing a successful business, such as: getting organized, keeping detailed records, analyzing competition, understanding risks and rewards, being creative, staying focused, and other norms, attitudes and practices.

Considering the current status of the Bangsamoro in starting a new government and as being victim of injustices for centuries, his presentation is very timely that it not just educates us but it also serves as encouragement for us to become successful entrepreneurs, said Moawiya Tuan, one of the participants from Poblacion, Datu Piang, Maguindanao.

“In the process of starting, running and growing their business, small entrepreneurs help build the nation. They are often called the ‘backbone of the economy,’ or ‘the engine of growth,’” said Akmad.
His statement is described by Nasser Amolan, a participant from Ampatuan, Maguindanao as among the most encouraging highlights of the presentation.

“With this seminar, the participants realized and were enlightened that they can also help build the Bangsamoro nation just by having the correct process of starting, running and growing business,” added Amolan.

As part of the immeasurable dedication for the development of the BARMM, the above-stated MPs are deeply committed to exert their utmost efforts and maximum capacities during their term of office to help the region rise from the brink of underdevelopment with high rate of illiteracy and poverty with malnutrition.

MP Iqbal is a known hardworking and meticulous writer who wrote the book, ‘A Nation Under Endless Tyranny’, in several editions and many other books in line with the Bangsamoro struggle for freedom and self-determination. He is holding the position of Minister of Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education-BARMM in a concurrent capacity.

MP Zul Qarneyn Abas, M.D. is also known for being a hardworking and meticulous writer who wrote the module of Bangsamoro Development Agency’s (BDA) Youth Development Program, and other useful reading materials.

As a medical doctor by profession with clean heart for the poor and marginalized families, among his top priorities is helping them improve their economic status, enabling them to live a healthy lifestyle and helping ensure that their children will not suffer from malnutrition.

It is worth mentioning that even long before the BTA started, MP Iqbal and MP Abas have already gone ahead in helping those in need by any means available to them.
