Reds free police captives

SURIGAO CITY—Communist guerillas in Mindanao released their remaining captives as promised Saturday in a goodwill gesture following the successful end of initial peace talks that wrapped up the day before in Oslo, Norway.

About 5,000 people from different towns of Surigao del Norte came to witness the release of PO2 Caleb Sinaca, PO3 Jayroll Bagayas, SPO3 Santiago Lamanilao and civilian police employee Rodrigo Angub, who were turned over to their relatives in a day-long event in a mountainous area overlooking the city.

Unilateral Declaration of Interim Ceasefire

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and the National Operational Command of the New People’s Army (NPA) hereby declare to all commands and units of the NPA and people’s militias an interim ceasefire in line with the recommendation of the Negotiating Panel of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and in pursuit of the August 26 Joint Statement of the NDFP and Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) on the resumption of formal peace negotiations.

New compilation of agreements off the press

The sequel to the previous collection of agreements between the Government of the Philippines and Moro Islamic Liberation Front was launched August 26 at EM Manor Hotel in Cotabato City.

Published by the MILF Peace Panel, the book’s title is GPH-MILF Peace Process: A Compilation of Signed Agreements and Other Related Documents (2010-2016) Volume II.
