Manila court orders arrest of CPP’s Joma, 37 others over 80s ‘purge’

MANILA, Philippines — A Manila court has ordered the arrest of exiled Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founding chair Jose “Joma” Maria Sison and 37 others over the so-called “purge” in the 1980s.

Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 32 issued the arrest warrant for 15 counts of murder in connection with the Inopacan massacre. Government agents had discovered a mass grave in Inopacan, Leyte where they also said the skeletons of 15 people killed in the CPP purge were found.

Republic Act 11203 or the Rice Tariffication Law (RTL) promises rice sufficiency at a cheap price for the public. But it is a plan that was doomed to fail from the very beginning for to liberalize the rice industry makes such scenario an impossibleshot in the dark.

As expected, the reactionary government, this time of the US-China-Duterte regime, deceptively rested a critical and urgent need of the people upon a neoliberal framework that actually serves the powerful elite. It utilized stale slogans such as ‘free trade’ and ‘competitiveness’to justify the flooding of imported rice. For reactionary legislators, the bulk arrival of rice with relatively lower prices will ensure adequate supply and then trigger the decrease of local rice prices.

COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will participate in the “2019 World Peace Summit” to be held on September 6 and 7, 2019 at the Cotabato City State Polytechnic College (CCSPC), Cotabato City and Marco Polo Hotel, Davao City, respectively. 

Secretary General of HWPL Philippine Branch, John Rommel Garces said, “The Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as well as the Interim Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Al Haj Ahod B. Ebrahim will participate to deliver their keynote speeches in the said event.”
