6 Soldiers wounded in Davao del Sur clash

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - Six soldiers were wounded in a landmine during a firefight with the extortion unit of the NPA in Sitio Lutangan, Brgy Kapatagan, Digos City, Davao del Sur 2:40 pm., February 10.

The soldiers were on patrol in the said barangay to protect the communities who reported NPA extortion when the NPA fired at them. The NPA immediately escaped after the incident. The wounded soldiers were rushed to nearest hospital for treatment.

Civilian reports pointed to Alias Rangrang as leader of the extortion unit of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee of the CPP/NPA/NDF operating in Davao del Sur areas. 

It can be recalled that on January 29, 2014, 4 NPA members who were on extortion activities in Sitio Matabang, Brgy. Taocanga, Manay, Davao Oriental were killed in an encounter with government troops. The soldiers recovered 2 M16; 1 AK47; 1 M4 rifles, 3 landmines, a cellphone and subversive documents from the NPA. 

EASTMINCOM Commander Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G Cruz III directed military field commanders in the area to be extra vigilant in their campaign to win the peace. 

The use of landmine is a violation of the provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian law (CARHRIHL).
